Ever notice that when you are out to eat and you have decided what you want you close your menu, but then when the waitress comes by, you re-open your menu and read it?

What's the deal with that?

the deal:

reading the menu allows you to not make eye contact with the waitress. if you weren't reading your menu, you'd have to be looking at the waitress, and that makes most people uncomfortable.

Actually I agree with Piggy. Although many people do it so they can actually point out the item on the menu, to avoid mistakes. As a waiter I'd say most people do it so they dont' have to look you in the eye, as they are already planning to fuck you on the tip.
