If he honestly meant that to be taken literally I would agree with you, but I think in context it takes on a meaning that nothing compares to God, and this whole world is dim compared to his glory. Yes, God wants us to value his creation, and the Christian camp has abused and overlooked our responsability to that creation in the past, but in this context I do not think he was speaking in absolutes or even addressing the theologically appropriate response. Instead I would understand his comment in the context of prayer when a type of poetic and spiritual, instead of systematic or scientific, language is used.
