The wind whipped around him, cold and insistent. The edge was so comfortable - just enough risk to make his heart beat, but wide enough that he wouldn't fall - and he found himself wishing it would start snowing. Snow just seemed right for tonight.

He closed his eyes, and the world around him seemed to die, fade away, turn to dust. All that was left was him, the wind, and the ledge his feet were on. He could swear, his eyes closed and listening hard, that he heard her voice, felt her hand on his shoulder.

You can fly, she whispered. Fly with me. He stepped forward half a step, knowing he was dangerously close to the edge and feeling a grin spread across his face - he would fly, not fall, isn't that what she said? He believed her implicitly, and spread his arms gleefully to catch the wind that was swirling around him, trying to lift him into the air. He lifted a foot to take a step forward and -

"Mark? You up here, man?" Mark's eyes snapped open and he threw his weight backwards, away from the edge that had seemed so tempting a moment ago. He was shaking, almost unable to move, when Collins poked his head around the corner of one of the large pointless-seeming things on the roof. "Hey, you okay?" he frowned, worried.

"Yeah," Mark choked out. "Just tripped."

"Okay." Collins said slowly. "Well, just be careful - wouldn't want you to go flying off the edge of the roof, would we?"

Mark shuddered. "No." he said softly.

That night, he started taking his long-forgotten medication again - he'd rather be safe and a little dulled than sorry and flying.
