My weekly Geekery, A training RANT

Granted, I'm 4 days through a severe 6 day head-cold. So maybe this is coming out harsher than it should. But whether I'm climbing out of my sickbed or taking time out of my work schedule, DON'T WASTE MY TIME when you claim to offer advanced trainings.

In computer trainings, there are some real benefits to investing in real-life training classes ( Read more... )

I completely agree and sympathize. I felt much the same after a UIE webinar on prototyping. In spite of it being titled as a "how to" it was all about why prototypes are useful and how to pitch the idea of prototyping back to the biz stakeholders.

Relative to Android, I have a question for you. Is there a custom ROM or anything else that I could do to my G1 to allow me to save and run apps via the SD card instead of internal memory?

I've read how to root, but I don't know what is the right thing to do next to get what I need.

Several of the forums say that, for the G1, the Linux build security prevents the saving of apps (and even app data with pointers) to the SD card. Even a different ROM won't make a make it work. Is this true?

Appreciate your help and feel better soon. Have some vitamin C, zinc, and magnesium; those help me come out of a cold with more energy.

Hi! I believe the tool you are looking for is called "Apps2SD"
I don't know a lot of the details about it, and if lucky you don't even need to put a new ROM on. Googling G1 Apps2sd returns several videos and also the first link looks relevant.

If you need to go further in the ROMs, xda-developers.com is a good resource for ROMs and this sort of answer. This old Cyanogen ROM looks like it might address your problem and work on the G1:

Good luck!
(I'm writing this in the Android Training class. The trainer is now talking over basic tools & configuration files IN DETAIL, at the very end of the class rather than at the beginning. Ugh)
