Yesterday I was meant to teach yr10, but there was a presentation on in the main hall, so I took my students to that instead, as instructed. Waiting outside the hall we had maybe 4 teachers, as many teachers aides, and less than 90 reasonably quiet students. We then did something odd. Great Northern War was absolutely awesome. The fact that my household went to the trouble to get me there was even more awesome. I have some wonderful friends.

Spent a good deal of the event making my new silk viking tunic. Ended up wearing the tunic, still doing the embroidery on the sleeves, while I was walking around. it's a lovely bit of silk ( Read more... )

Well, yesterday was AWFUL and today was slightly better. I'm slowly adjusting to the hellishly long lessons. Only four to a day, and each of them 75 whole minutes long! Today we went to the markets. There were so many interesting things for sale. The pineapples were incredible, we could smell them from a great distance, and eventually found the stall by scent alone. I've got four new pairs of cotton socks in bright colours, and silk yarn.

Well, the first week (or first few days) are over, and I've met each of my new classes. Interesting bunch of students. I'm teaching a healthy mix of Agriculture and Science, and having an interesting time with each. The lessons are hugely long, about twice the length of the lessons in my original school. Well, yesterday was interesting. I went into the school early, and was introduced to a long list of different teachers, who I'll now have to remember the names of (I'm never going to manage that any time soon, there were too many too fast) and also to some of my charges. On Thursday I recieved a phone call saying that they had me a job. Far out west and north (further north, admittedly, than west) of my home town. For some crazy reason I said yes, and packed up, and today my mother and I have driven a huge distance on unknown, difficult roads to get to the job, which they wanted me to start tomorrow ( Read more... )
