Solomon was interrupted as he tried to dissuade the black-clad men for the fifth time about their notions that the boy had sought shelter in his shop. He had been talking with them for several minutes and it was all he could do to keep up the front of ‘harmless and kindly’ old shopkeeper without inserting the note of ‘annoyed’ that he was feeling. Thus it was with great relief when he heard the sounds of his grandson thundering down the stairs in the back, talking excitedly with Jounouchi.

Solomon was expecting a masterful performance from Yugi, knowing the boy was a much better actor than he. After all, the young teen had hid his alter spirit from him and his mother for quite a while. It was to his great shock when Yugi stopped dead at the sight of the two men, mouth hanging open in shock before he took a hasty step backwards, cursing softly in Egyptian.

“Af mewet, ankjha fritip bin Ra hadjet…” He swallowed nervously and backed up again. “Jou, can you…?” He trailed off, but his blond friend nodded and stepped in front of Yugi, scowling fiercely at the ominous pair.

“No prob, Yug’. I got this one.”

The two men’s gazes narrowed but before they could even open their mouths to speak, Jounouchi was in their faces. Literally. He marched right up in front of the nearest thug, waving a fist under his nose.

“You listen up buddy, and listen up good. Yugi is not here for your personal entertainment. He is a real person and believe it or not, he has his own life.” The man opened his mouth to speak, seemingly shocked at Jounouchi’s brazen attitude, but Jounouchi ploughed straight on with no regard for what the man was going to or might have said.

“Yugi will not be giving you an autograph. He will not be signing anything. He will also not be duelling you. Yes, we all know that Yugi is the King of Games, yadda yadda, but that does not means he will play every hack that comes up and begs him. Yugi duels in official tournaments, or for fun. Being accosted by random strangers is not fun. So you can just turn around and get your black dressed butts outta here before they get kicked out.”

The men looked angry, not used to being talked down to by anyone not in their immediate chain of command. The shorter of the two took his anger a step further, lurching towards his partner and Jounouchi, half-blocking the teen’s escape route back behind the counter.

“Listen, buddy, we were just-”

“Shut. Up.”

The words were spoken with quiet menace and Solomon froze, knowing that his grandson’s alter ego had taken over.

“Jounouchi-kun is right. I have no desire to duel either of you, nor will I be giving out autographs. Leave, now.”

One of the men made to speak, but Yami held up a hand, forestalling any remarks.

“You will leave, or I will call the police. Domino City is very protective of its celebrities and I would hate to see you get,” his voice dropped unpleasantly, “hurt.”

The shorter man snarled again, but his partner grabbed his arm and dragged him backwards, Jounouchi taking the opportunity to escape behind the counter.

“Screwdriver. We’re leaving. Now.” The man’s tone of voice brooked no argument, and though the shorter man grumbled, he did as he was told and left.
