“Yo,” said Heiji easily, waving at the newcomer. “You a friend of Yagami-han’s?”
The pale insomniac in front of him blinked slowly, bringing a thumb to his mouth and nibbling on the nail.
“Yes. I suppose you could call me that,” he said in a monotone.
Heiji grinned. “Nice to meetcha. I’m-“
“Hattori Heiji, also know as the Great Detective of the West,” interrupted the man. “You may call me Ryuuga Hideki.”
Heiji blinked. “Wow. Guess I’m more famous than I thought.”
“Indeed. Although I am more familiar with detectives than most.”
Beside him, Light shifted a little testily and interrupted their conversation.
“Yes, quite. Is there something you wanted, Ryuuz-ga?”
“I was wondering if Yagami-kun wanted to play tennis with me again,” said Ryuuga with wide eyes, dropping his thumb to his side. “But if Yagami-kun is busy…” he trailed off, darkly circled eyes wide and guileless.
“Nah, s’okay,” said Heiji, waving his hand from side to side. “You go play tennis, Yagami-han. I was gonna catch up with K-a friend anyway.”
Light’s mouth tightened imperceptibly and Heiji grinned at them both.
“Nice meeting ya, Ryuuga. Seeya around, Yagami-han.”
He slipped away into the crowds with an idle wave, not waiting for a response from either men. He knew full well that he’d pay for it later, but was unable to resist getting one up on the implacable Yagami Light.
