Tuesday night was the Academy Is, Plain White T's, Days Away, and June show in Toledo. I drove, and the drive wasn't too bad. we got there about 45 before doors and stood in line between 2 mothers, one of which was wearing a home made, customized, Academy Is wife beater. Headliners was kind of small and VERY hot. it was raining outside so the humidity was out of control. we were about 2nd/3rd row back, but I think you could probably have seen from about anywhere. June were good, but during the Days Away set, I yawned approximately 10000 times. they aren't a bad band, just too mellow for me I think. one of the tour guys decided to put on a pink skirt, hike up his shirt to let his belly hang out, expose his ass, and wave a mannequin head around for the first song. keep in mind this guy is in no way someone you want to see practically naked. next were the T's. they were REALLY good. of course I only knew the single, but I enjoyed their set a lot and I bought the CD after the show. Tom is cute and when Tim rides his guitar... oh man, that's hot shit. then The Academy played. their set was awesome as always. the crowd was worse for the T's than them, besides the fact that I had the world's WORST concert-goer next to me. I have never hated another person at a show like I loathed her. see, she was half naked in some skanky little number, and therefore she kept rubbing her sweaty skin all over me. now I'm all about getting down at a show and all, but do it in your own freaking space. you cannot sway back and forth trying to be sexy in a pit full of sweaty kids. it's simply unfair to take up more than your allotted 2ft x 2ft pit space, let's keep it fair now. so while she was rubbing her sweaty nakedness all over me, the Academy were amazing and William played an acoustic for Seasons and Black Mamba. at one point, some kids started crowd surfing, but there was nowhere for them to go but on sage. as they flopped onto the stage, Tony would bum-rush them, grab them with one arm by the waist, and fling them off stage. that kid doesn't mess around. after the show we waited around for a bit. talked to some good kids. Tom from TAI came out, which is a huge step because he NEVER comes out after shows. he turned out to be really really nice! Allison caught up with "B" who, although he looks like a 7 year old girl, I'm quite attracted to. on stage he was only wearing these little beige running shorts, so he pretty much looked naked. the Days Away merch guy Chris was friendly, as was the drunken guitar player of the T's with the sides of his head shaved. William promised he'd remember our names and he too was very friendly. Adam came out as well, which doesn't happen often either. he remembered Allison and Maria's Oreo gift and asked for lunchables, which Maria got him for last night but then forgot at home. T's Tom promised to get Allison and Maria on the list for Columbus, and Allison successfully dodged Tony all night. we drove home and that was that.
last night was the same show in Columbus. me, Allison, Chelsea, and Heather met up at Maria's around 5 and they loaded up a bit.
see now, the night before we specifically asked Tony about where the show was because the site said "the basement at NEWPORT," but The Basement and The Newport are 2 different places. Tony insisted that it was in the basement of the Newport, so that's where we headed. we were already running a little late, and after parking and walking all around Newport, we realized that the show was, in fact, at the Basement near Promowest. in all of this walking though, Allison had her "STOP" pillow in her shirt and was looking quite pregnant, and she was going on about how hard it was being a single mother. so we got to the Basement and June was already playing. we go to the door and are told that it's sold out. all of us had tickets except Chelsea, but we weren't going without her so Maria, Allison, and I went inside to find someone to get her in. I think the first person we found was Tim from the T's who was drinking at the bar with Dave. Allison tried to explain to him the situation but he was incredibly unhelpful, threatened to hit his beer over Allison's head if she didn't calm down, and passed us on to De'Mar, who I assumed would do the same because he's not known for being very friendly. he was a little taken aback by their drunken energy, however, he did come outside with us and listened to the situation. he hit on Heather numerous times, listened to us rant about many things, watched us loose a bidding battle for another ticket, but eventually hooked Chelsea up. funny side note, someone asked me if De'Mar was HeyChris. I laughed because a) HeyChris is with fall out boy, who is in no way affiliated with this tour, and b) HeyChris is Mexican and De'Mar may just be the only black person in any pop punk band EVER. while we were waiting for him to go inside and work his magic there were band guys on the Fat Eddie's balcony. I'm not really sure what all was said but there was some funny banter being passed back and forth. well De'Mar came through and we all got in, but it was packed and hot as hell. we couldn't really see and didn't really want to watch Days Away so we just hung out by the bar and talked to some people. we went back to watch the T's. Chelsea and I stood on the side where we couldn't really see much, but Allison and Maria squeezed their way to the 3rd row of the pit. they had their "STOP" pillows and were dancing, it was a sight.
Chelsea and I decided that we would just go down and take their spots for the Academy, but by the time we got anywhere near them they had left, so we were stuck in the back of the pit behind tall boys who were talking about moshing. dude, you can't mosh at an Academy show! but once the music started, the pushing let us sneak up close and to the side so we could see pretty well. all the bands were having trouble with the sound and William gave the sound guy some attitude, but that's to be expected from a diva.
the set was close, if not exactly the same as the night before, but still awesome, and Tony was looking good as usual.
William brought out the acoustic again.
good show. we went and found the others sitting on a couch. De'Mar was straddling a blonde girl on the couch next to us and then they disappeared into the band room upstairs. we found Tom (from the Academy)
who had come out again. we talked for a bit and Maria freaked out to find out that he went to Catholic school. then Allison, who was no longer drunk, asks him "now I have a question, who do you like touring with more, The Matches, or the Academy?" he looked at her like she was crazy and then was like, "hm, yeah, I think i'm going to go, I'll be back later" pretty much the finniest thing ever! we had a really long conversation with merch guy Chris about his girlfriend Katherine and their relationship. she gave him an ultimatum so he has to go back to New York and work that stuff out. apparently she's quite a jealous girlfriend and things have been rather rough for them. Chris also used to be roommates with Eddie from TBS. I told him that Eddie was mean to me and he said they were bffs and he's not a mean guy, but I still beg to differ. Allison and Maria got their pillows back from "B" and Chelsea and Heather had shirts they wanted William to sign. we waited and waited while girls talked his ear off and when it was almost our turn they kicked us out. luckily William came outside too because he's awesome like that. he remembered our names and signed their shirts. Chelsea got a picture with him.
(look how hot they both are, damn they'd have pretty babies)
and Allison and William had a conversation about what exactly "bohemian" style was, as well as the use of the word "stoop" for dramatic effect, instead of porch. he joked around a lot and was funny. so we decided to head back to the car but when we rounded the corner, all the vans were there and we got side tracked. I literally got 8 mosquito bites on my arm and shoulder while standing out there listening to Keith from Days Away go on and on about how much Alternative Press likes his band. he flirted with Heather, who also was the only one De'Mar said goodbye to by name. Adam and De'Mar were bad mouthing Pete Wentz and I got a little angry, simply because Fall Out Boy hooked the Academy up big time and pretty much jump started their career and they also took the T's out on tour more than once. they could have been kidding I suppose, who knows. we talked to Adam for a minute, then Tony walked over. he looked at Allison who bowed her head with embarrassment and asked him not to look at her. he was quiet and was like "it's ok really" and then she started touching his dimples and asking him if he was ok after his breakup. we finally headed to stake n'shake and then home. quite a good night. I didn't actually go to bed until after 4 (I don't understand how it got so late!) and then was awoken by my mother on the phone saying I had a doctors appointment at 11:30... so why did you have to wake me up at 8 woman?? but I went back to bed until 10:45. now I'm tired and I want to take a nap.
