it's called a muffle furnace and we had to fuse some rock samples for my analytical techniques class- tomorrow we're going to use an x-ray diffractometer (?????) to analyze some rock samples and it can only analyze things in the liquid state. glass = liquid, so we had to melt the rock powder and then supercool it by taking the magma out of the furnace.

my professor was in there with me, and a classmate from another class- and the other guy wasn't wearing closed toe shoes and dr. wulff was like "SWING IT OVER FOR JEREMY!" i thought for sure i would kill him.
