I *think* that's made by the Swedish dairy producer Arla for the mid-east market (hence the arabic(?) label). It has been showing up in various bargain- and bulk food stores since the Danish Muhammad caricature-business when Arla was boycotted and lost most of their market shares there due to a mix-up between Sweden and Denmark...

My point? none, except perhaps that it's a strange world where you end up buying weird cheese due to a religio-political incident two years earlier on another continent.

yeah, whilst casually looking for references about this stuff online I ran across a blog post about the political and religious background of the product, and the places in which it is sold or not sold. complicated indeed!

comes in a re-usable glass, though!

Too bad it doesn't have a Benjamin Rabier label like Vache-Qui-Rit

In addition to Emily's delicious cornbread, the cheese is also good on the tip of a finger. The cornbread has the advantage that you get to eat it as well, and it not just a cheese delivery vehicle.

So you also have Vache-Qui-Rit Cheese in the USA or you just discovered that in a french trip? I thought I could be proud of this french difference like those little Eiffel Towers they sell on the Champ-de-Mars.

I live in Canada! We certainly have Vache Qui Rit here, and I'm reasonably sure they sell it in the states too (as Laughing Cow of course).

I grew up eating this stuff! It's pronounced "pook" for no reason at all. They advertised for it on the Arabic satellite channels all the time. Strange commercials. All that being said, it's full of bad for you goodness! Also, it's tasty on toasted pita bread. :)
