injuries!

I had a bike accident last night and I've ended up bruised and scraped, but unbroken. Toronto has streetcars, and I was biking up the street, slipped into the tracks and went down pretty hard. Anyhow, this is all fine except I mostly broke my fall with my face, and now it's swollen and remarkably gargoylish. I have to leave on Tuesday to join ( Read more... )

If you can, get your hands on some propelus. I was living with some homesteaders that made their own, and that shit fixed up burns, cuts, gashes, headaches, sickness and damn near anything else like a miracle. Abhorrently it's like a super focused dose of every vitamin and mineral your body needs to get it's stuff done. Plus bee magic.

Ouch! I have no suggestions, but I wish your face a speedy recovery!

I know you have a lot of advice already, but I always swear by arnica. It's supposed to be mostly for bruises and sore muscles, but I've used it on scrapes, ingrown nails, piercings... basically anything that gets inflamed. It's also available orally. It says it just reduces swelling and inflammation, but I swear it speeds the healing. Just be careful putting it on anything too open... I've put it on scabs and such no problem, though.

I've heard that honey works well (spread it over the wound then dress it like you normally would), but I haven't ever tried it. You might end up with flies swarming you too, which doesn't improve your situation.

I know you have a tonne of advice already, but I thought I would chime in with my experience regardless :).

I did the same thing last spring (minus the streetcar track) and took a fall from my bike at high speed on my face. I had a good amount of actual road rash all along the sides of my face.

I used the burn gel band aids on the biggest spots of rash at my cheek bone and jaw. I think it helped to keep the road burn moist and hanging out with the secretions. I did get teased at work for wearing the big gel pad band aids on my face though...

They healed up fairly nicely within two weeks and they never turned dark red or brown after the scab, but went straight to light pink...so they were less noticeable once healed, and with some vitamin e oil I had very little scarring.

Best of luck healing
