Every Film I Watched in 2010
As usual, an asterisk means a rewatch, and the number in parentheses is the date of release.
1 - Coraline (09)
2 - The Running Man (82) - Here, we moved to Scotland. This was watched on a laptop, in a crummy hostel while we looked for a flat
3 - Grave of the Fireflies (89) - could it be, the saddest war film? I haven't seen the film of
Raymond Briggs' When the Wind Blows though, and I'm sure that's right up there.
4 - The Shooting Party (85)
5 - Double Indemnity (44) - I REALLY loved this
6 - A Study in Terror (65)
7 - * Local Hero (83) - living in Scotland now = watching Local Hero. By this time, we had a flat in the West end of Glasgow, but no internet yet. We actually watched this again a month or so later, in a cottage on the Isle of Skye.
8 - * The Godfather (72) - the library in Glasgow charges for DVDs! We consequently didn't take many out but this and the next couple on the list

12 - W (08) - there was a blockbuster across the street from our flat that had cheaper DVD rentals than the library, although their selection was pretty slender. Thus, some weird choices to come...

15 - * Sita Sings the Blues (08) - I'd seen Sita before, but it played at the film fest, so this time it was on the big screen!

18 - His Girl Friday (40) - I would pay good money to listen to Scots say Cary Grant's name, so we went to this at the film fest 'cause of the pre-movie talk. sigh
19 - White Stripes Under the Great White Northern Lights (09) - we ended up seeing two Canadian music documentaries while in Glasgow. I'm not sure I would have gone to see either in the theatre if it weren't for a touch of homesickness.

I usually split these lists into two, one in the middle of the year and one at the end, but this time one seemed adequate. My movie-watching totally fell off a cliff this year, partly due to the BBC iPlayer. We watched dozens of great shows while living in Scotland, so many that there wasn't really time for movies anymore. Back in Canada, our weekly themed movie nights have taken a while to get going again, so that also meant fewer flicks than usual. This year, I'd like to hit the second-run theatres more often, as well as trying to keep the rewatches to a minimum.
