Music doesn't cause emotion

I think I have a problem.

From discussions with others, it seems that I get less from certain stimuli than they do.

Examples:
I only know what emotion music is trying to invoke when someone tells me. Once I understand, I can recognise it elsewhere
I have the DVD of Bill Bailey's Remarkable Guide To The Orchestra, but I end-up arguing with him when he ( Read more... )

From what I know of Asperger's, there are symptoms that are the opposite of what I'll do.

I will rather not approach someone than approach them and talk about something that they have no interest in (perhaps I'm autistic in this regard, as I can drift into silence and seeming unapproachability very easily)

I am able to be empathetic.

I don't have motor co-ordination problems.

I don't perform repetitive routines.

You might be onto something, though, as there are a few other symptoms that I can recognise within myself. However, I think Asperger's, along with ADHD and Autism, is starting to be overdiagnosed, with traits being lumped together that could actually indicate different phycological conditions.

"you have less difficulty being an appropriately social creature than a typical Aspergers case" you say the nicest things ;)

And it does give me a place to start searching from. Thank you.

I don't get much emotional stimulus from visual art generally. Paintings and sculptures and the like have varying levels of aesthetic appeal and interest, but they don't make me feel anything really. With dance I rarely get beyond "wow, look at how bendy those people are."

Music, on the other hand, plays me like a fiddle.
