The past couple of weeks have seen nothing but removal vans coming and going from here. I can't say I was sorry to see everyone go, but there were some faces I'd gotten used to, and it's always strange when they leave. Ah - that might preserve the mat a little longer, but I think it would possibly defeat the object of having one.

I only noticed some random odds and ends in front of one of the vacant room's doors the other night, yet when I went to leave this morning, there were pieces missing. I've concluded that the only thing I'll leave outside my door will be the name plaque, which is quite affixed and easily replaced.

Oh, yes. I'm afraid it happens all the time, and there are break ins more often than there should be, too. If you have anything valuable it's really best to keep it very well hidden.

That probably isn't what a new arrival really wants to hear, but hopefully it's fair warning...

Listening to what you only want to hear's about level with seeing only what you want to see in a place like this, it seems. Fair enough, and thanks.

Though now I dislike the looks of my fire escape even more.

Is it creaky? If it's creaky it might actually make quite a good alarm system. Most things around here are creaky.

I could always use help in the kitchen. Though, I think we're out of milk.

Well that's a problem easily solved, I think I have milk-money, I'll go and get us some.

Thank you! I'd ask Renji, but he's never around when I need a favor from him.

Yes, he does rather have a habit of disappearing a few moments before anyone considers asking him to do something that might be considered effort.
