November meme, Day 21

I do like these questions. They're very imaginative and today's is also a good one.

21 Would it disturb you much if, upon your death, your body were simply thrown into the woods and left to rot? Why? No, it wouldn't bother me at all; I'd be dead. Once you're dead you are not disturbed by anything ( Read more... )

I like these questions! I have already told Mr Cee that if I go first he can do what he wants but I don’t want a funeral home to benefit from thousands of pounds on an expensive funeral. Maybe I’ll suggest this lol!

If I felt I had a vote, I would say no funeral for me. Just say goodbye and let the body go.

Good answer - they can bury me in the wood though.

That would certainly be more hygienic, as well as ecologically sound.

And definitely quite feasible.

I am with you - what my family do with my carcass is their decision.

I don't want to discourage, but if you can find enough space between the roots to dig the hole *g*

I would so *like* for this to happen! I would love someone to lay me out in the woods in some kind of semi-formal way, with me in some kind of drapey robe thing, and tie ribbons and trinkets all around and just, in general, make me look like a witch or something.

I'd be the corpse the kids would dare each other to go look at on Halloween. Wheeeeeeeeee!

*g* The fresh body and the skeleton are fine. It's the bit in between that I think is probably not very pretty.

However, I'm sure you would make a very attractive dead witch and the kids would definitely tip-toe up *g*

Interesting question. As you say, funeral rituals are for the living. Hmm, I'll contemplate on this one a bit - oh and I'll try not to trip over your body when I go for a pootle in the woodland! :0

*shakes head* One of these days you really will need to start looking where you're going when wandering around in the woods. Who knows what you could step in or trip over.

A few months ago, an acquaintance made a Facebook post reminding everyone to make a will and make their funeral and burial or cremation wishes clear, and I thought about it and realized that I just really don't care at all. My survivors can just do whatever is most practical or comforting to them! It's not like I'd be around to have any feelings about it.

I think there is a Tibetan tradition of sky burials, where they put the bodies on top of a mountain for the vultures to eat. To me, there's something very cool about that.

Yeah, the make a will bit is very important, but I have always thought it was crazy for anyone to try and impose their idea of a funeral on their survivors. Besides anything else, they may not be able to afford it and could bankrupt themselves trying to meet the dead person's perceived last wishes.

At the same time, giving your survivors some idea of what you would like can help them make decisions at a time when it's hard to think. Also, it helps if there are competing ideas of what your wishes are. Funerals can get really political. It just depends what kind of family you have.

Ah, yes, I hadn't considered the possibility for family arguments.
