"Really? Funny you should say that." She was up against the wall now, and Schuldig grinned broadly at her as he leaned in, resting his free hand against the wall near her head - and pinning several thick strands of her hair to the wall with it, though she wouldn't notice that unless she tried to move suddenly. He made sure to keep his lower body leaned away from her; just about everyone who'd ever been cornered would try for a nut shot if you gave them half a chance, and he'd cornered far too many people to fall for that. He brought the gun forward to, quite gently, rest the barrel against the wrist holding the knife, guiding the hand further downward. "See, there's this amazing little invention - a supercomputer, sophisticated as hell; even I only know less than half the functions, and I'm sleeping with the inventor. But it's so advanced, it's got all these security systems and tracking devices and things, and according to those, you've got it on you. And I don't know about you, but I am just all kinds of curious as to how that ( ... )

Ack! This was worse than bad. This guy was seriously going to shoot through her wrist and possibly worse. Silently, Rikku cursed herself for letting this happen; she obviously needed to be more careful of her surroundings, especially after helping herself to things that were especially high-tech. If her father realized the situation she'd allowed herself to get into, she'd never hear the end of it.

Since she didn't have much choice in the matter, Rikku opened her hand and released the knife; its clamor as it hit the ground seemed to echo through the alley. "Please don't shoot--I didn't know what it was when I took it." This was technically true; she had realized it was a nice piece of technology, yes, but she didn't really have any idea was it was"It's in my pocket." Not daring to move either hand out of fear that he'll pull the trigger, Rikku nodded her head downward to indicate two pouches on her right hip. "Just go ahead and take it and let me go, and I'll pretend that I never saw the whateveritwas and you can pretend you ( ... )

Artemis checked his phone again. He'd saved considerable amounts of time, but his suit was positively ruined. He'd had to tramp through the drain at points and crawl under grates, not to mention that the stench had overwhelmed him at points. He'd had to stop intermittently to be sick several times. And what was worse, he couldn't just blame it neatly on the thief--he wouldn't have had to run in the first place if it hadn't been for that drug lord, who was probably already dead by now. No one who shot at Artemis Fowl lived long--Schwarz saw to that ( ... )

Schuldig glanced over at Artemis and grinned. Well, if Schuldig had been planning on meting out any punishment for the boy's letting himself be so neatly robbed of something as valuable and data-packed as Cube, it was clear now that punishment had already been dealt. The boy looked - and smelled - like he'd come straight from an incontinent elephant's colon. "You see this?" he said to Rikku, jerking his head in Artemis' direction as he pulled his hand away from the wall and reached down to search her pouches for Cube. Given its distinctive shape, not hard to find, even without looking. "Here I've been, having a shootout with drug lords and chasing down thieves all for him, and he comes up out of nowhere with an attitude and smelling like roses." As he pulled away from Rikku, clicking the safety back on as he dropped the gun back into his pocket, he couldn't resist adding, "Freshly fertilized ( ... )

Rikku followed the man's line of sight to the new, obviously irritated arrival: the same guy she'd lifted the minicomputer from earlier, except this time covered in a whole mess of filth. Despite her precarious position, Rikku's nose crinkled and she mumbled a soft "ew."

However, with the knowledge that his companion was still alive (if covered in sewage), the man eased up considerably. Cracking a joke as his companion's expense, he stepped back and put the gun away, finally allowing Rikku the room to move. The first thing she did was crouch down and pick her knife back up; even if this guy was suddenly amiable, she didn't exactly trust him to stay that way. She kept her eye on him as he tucked the cube into his trench coat pocket--the bills didn't escape her notice, but at that point she really couldn't care less ( ... )
