I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him.

If you're playing a Ventrue, you should read Shakespeare's Julius Caesar Act 3 Scene 2. If you've read it before, you should read it again. Honestly, read the whole play, but pay special attention to that scene. Then, recognize that White Wolf canon places Mark Antony as an embraced Ventrue ( Read more... )

many, many people I game with have had this conversation about Vampire in general, not just Ventrue.

on a side note, if LARP was like the Rome series, I'd never sleep.

Also true. But this character specifically is entirely imperative for Ventrue.

Other clans might be better represented by other characters in other plays. I can see Richard III more like a Lasombra, Tzimisce, maybe Brujah than a Ventrue. Henry V as a Brujah, etc.

Mark Antony is straight up Ventrue, though, and even WW claims him. Maintains subtlety and grace in mourning Caesar while rousing a rabble instead of passionately outright charging it himself like a Brujah might. It's the difference that counts him as Ventrue.

Agreed, but he also comes off Lasombra or Setite at times.

But yeah I dont think people understand the depth and sublety in Shakesphere's and etc's plays with the politics, meanings, etc, or they just aint teaching it anymore in schools. I love that stuff.

I think most people haven't read them since they were in high school, and few deeply understood anything they read in high school. They were too busy being teenagers. Few people seem to re-read anything they read back then, which is a shame specifically in the case of Shakespeare's stuff.

Um, they don't already know that?

Sorry, but that's the whole reason I chose that clan. :-)

Hm. This does pose a question of 'Who is the iconic Shakespearian character for each of the Clans'.

Also, I need to read the Histories, it seems. *shameful confession*

Ya. I see MacBeth himself as more of a Gangrel or Brujah brute guy.

All the Ventrue PCs who come running to my Ventrue NPCs for "orders" make me tired sometimes. And then I go to sleep. Mm. Sleep. (:

Tempting.

I bet some people wouldn't even realize it was negative. (:
