It was interesting that, without explaining, the youngest of the survivors was no more than nine months younger than the arrival date of the alien invaders. It gets across the survivor's level of confidence in there being a future for their colony.
Yeah, no overused plot elements, I can give it that.
I hadn't thought about what the ages of the youngest kids meant, that's a good point! I do usually like his books, maybe I'll give the next one a chance after all.
