Journalist to get lashed for wearing trousersI don't know why this surprises me, and yet, every time I read something like this, it never ceases to amaze me. One interesting note... the strongest source of "blame the victim" is probably from women in a rape-trial jury.

It seems counter-intuitive, but the DEFENSE attorney wants to stack the jury with women, while the prosecutor doesn't want any.

The reason is an interesting psychological response. Perhaps it has something to do with the rationalization: "if I believe she deserved it, I won't have to accept that it could happen to anyone... including me".

mmm.. this is true..
I suppose, even, that we have made great strides in certain areas, since the time I was a child. One of my sisters was raped at the age of 9. It never made it to trial. His mother had pull, he didn't have a record at the time, and when the neighborhood girls found out, they followed her around, calling her whore..

It's also more difficult to prove in cases of date rape, where people see the young woman with the man in question, and everyone sees she's compliant, but usually, she's drugged out of her senses and can't do a damned thing.
