1. Ginny was almost named Fabia, after the uncle who died two years before her birth. (Molly tried to feminize Gideon as well, but couldn't come up with anything she liked well enough for her daughter.)
2. However, Arthur's great-great-aunt Ginevra happened to choke to death on an orange segment just as Molly was going into labor. "She died to spare me the horror of being named Fabia," Ginny jokes now, always with a look of utter solemnity.
3. When Ginny was five years old, she wanted to be a princess. One of Molly's best friends read the Muggle tabloids, and Princess Diana was in the news a lot. "I want that!" Ginny once announced, pointing at Diana's glittering tiara.
"I'm sorry, love," Molly said gently. "Only princesses wear tiaras."
"I want to be a princess!" Ginny said.
4. After that, Ginny found tiaras all over the Burrow. A flower pot, a glass serving dish, a lampshade - they all made splendid tiaras. Until they broke and Molly scolded.
5. Bill made a tiara for Ginny, out of colored paper and plastic beads. Ginny loved it and wore it all the time. She even slept with it. Wearing it in the bath ruined it, unfortunately.
6. Most of Ginny's toys were made by her parents and brothers, since they couldn't afford to buy her new things. Socks became puppets with yarn hair and button eyes. Bars of soap became baby dragons, kittens, and ducklings. There were birds and sailboats made of paper, and drums made from upturned dustbins and kettles.
7. Ginny's favorite color is blue. It has always been blue. Molly used to knit pretty pink sweaters and hats for her only girl, but she stopped when Ginny started nicking blue things from her brothers.
8. Ginny is and has always been a tomboy. She likes sports, bugs, frogs, and toilet humor. The twins credit themselves with their baby sister's colorful vocabulary.
"It's not so bad," says Fred, "having a pillock like Percy for a brother when you've got a little sister who can swear like a Knockturn Alley dealer."
9. Ginny was a very picky eater when she was little. In fact, of all the Weasley children, only Charlie was pickier. (Percy was the third pickiest, Ron the fourth, Bill the fifth. The twins always ate everything they were given and quite a few things they weren't.) Nowadays Ginny can tolerate just about everything - except aubergines. Nothing that can be done to an aubergine will make it palatable to Ginny Weasley.
10. Ginny put a lot of thought into Harry's valentine, thank you very much.
11. Except for those few months during her first year, Ginny has not kept a diary, and does not intend to keep a diary. Ever.
12. She doesn't fear Tom Riddle. She used to have nightmares about him, but they've stopped as she's grown older. She knows that he doesn't exist anymore - not as she knew him, at least. To Ginny, Tom Riddle and Voldemort are entirely different evils. Voldemort seems like a force of nature to her, a danger that threatens everything that is dear to her. Tom Riddle is more a personal demon.
13. Ginny is comfortable with her looks. She used to be unhappy about her freckles, so she tried to Charm them away. The spell went wrong and her skin ended up completely red for several hours. (She was twelve at the time.) She likes her hair, though when she was thirteen she rather wished she had long, glossy black hair like Cho Chang. (Though she always though Cho Chang was a bit of an idiot.) She's glad her eyes are brown because of the song "Brown-Eyed Girl" by Van Morrison.
14. Ginny gets along better with her father than her mother. It's always been like that.
15. Ginny doesn't have a favorite brother. She's closest to Ron, but she loves them all. Even Percy. Sometimes.
16. Looking back, she's glad she went to the Yule Ball with Neville and she wishes she hadn't left with Michael Corner. Neville stepped on her toes a lot, but he was nice and courteous. He actually made her corsage with flowers he'd grown in the school greenhouses.
17. Ginny thinks that Luna Lovegood is all right, really.
18. Sometimes Ginny wishes that she'd been able to fall in love with Dean. He was infuriating sometimes - he kept wanting to do things for her, and Ginny has always been self-sufficient - but he was fun to be with most of the time. Also, he's a really good kisser.
19. But she loves Harry and she's glad that they got together, even if it was only for a short time. She worries about him and misses him. She hopes he's all right, wherever he is.
20. But she isn't just sitting around moping and waiting for him.
