Up at the crack this morn by the rhythmic dripping of rain from the bay window onto the ledge next to my head.... "what better weather to plant the garden in" said the wee devil on my shoulder. "screw it. why not." said me. So I dragged myself up and threw on a ridiculous outfit that I wouldn't mind getting muddy...and headed into the backyard ( Read more... )

M & I planted strawberries & tomatoes yesterday. Sorry I didn't call back last night. I ended up with a fever and went home early.

Fantastic! I'm so jealous of your lovely garden. I've been beavering away on my weeny balcony planting as many pots up as I can fit into the space...

Im really excited about it all. Unfortunately my porch is covered by HUGE trees...so there is really only one corner that gets any decent light. I hope the flowers and herbs can manage!

Must be the time of year - everyone wanting to get muddy in the garden! I think the herbs should be fine, at least. They grow pretty well during the Autumn in England, which is pretty dark! Those purple flowers in the hanging baskets are gorgeous, I suppose you could whip them into pots and put them in a sunnier spot if they show any signs of being unhappy...

Though I know full well that it won't stop a determined raccoon (or squirrel for that matter), we use one of those folding fence enclosures that they sell for small pets. Mind you, this is something we already had from owning a small pet and was otherwise taking up space in the garage.

Also good for coaxing peas and runner beans up!

Super impressive greenery there, Kat, and the implementation is great. Our backyard is filled with sandy soil that just can't sustain a cache of yummies like yours, so I'll be vicariously looking forward to seeing it sprout. Keep us in the leafy fold!

the true trick will be keeping them all alive. I am up for the challenge!
Ive grown so attached to them...the picking...the replanting.
I am really excited about the prospect of growing my own food...
although the things I dug up in the yard lead me to believe that I
should eat ANYTHING grown in that soil! The wormies and buggies
crawling around in it seemed normal enough though!

Do worms count as MEAT?

I believe they are a mineral... :)
so they are safe for veg-mah-tarian eating.
Im not positive though, I shall bring this up at
the next veg-mah-tarian worm eating
conference I attend.

I cannot WAIT for them to get tall and gorgeous! Ive been wanting to plant them for ages!!!!

(himself, he is just that...him-self. a constant but private sort.
I disclose him in being....because he does...be. Anything else is left
to the imagination.....though you couldnt conjure a proper image
if you tried...many layers to that one......complicated mathematics
and secret potions required...O, but the rewards! :Pxx)
