they were thriving and filled me with glee.....
their topless stems, tattered, remain.
a pox on them.

The tomatoes, though, are looking very well. I love the smell of fresh tomatoes.. by August the vines themselves have a scent!

When I was wiring them p tonight my hands were left with the musty smell of earth and stem.....I havent washed them.......it has faded but still lingers.....it's wonderful.

You know, I think some of them "gardeners" are just sadists in disguise.
I've lived in houses where the landlord had a service come in once a week or every two weeks where invariably they'd trim back the bushes till there were hardly any leaves. It was frightening.
Recently when the new owners had some people come in they just straight chopped down some bushes and just left the odd stick poking outta the side of the stump. It looks like some cruel joke. I don't get it. A perfectly good rhododendron gone while others didn't get cut down and still stand. Yah, I don't get it.
I wonder if it would make any difference if you planted your sunflowers in containers. Perhaps they would leave em alone if they were in pots or boxes.
Here's some flowers to hold you till others can come fill your day.
