I read The Robber Bride about fifteen years ago, so I don't remember much in the way of detail, but I do remember that it wasn't my favourite of her books. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't one I adored.

I'm thinking of abandoning it and reading something else instead. I do have Oryx and Crake in my closet, as well as a Carl Sagan book I haven't read yet. Life's too short to stick with books that don't grab you.

I just abandoned one forty pages in because the characters were all over-the-top caricatures. Now I need to poke the bookshelf and see what's next.

Is that the one about the woman who's sister wrote the novel? And their dad owned the button factory?

No, I think the one you're describing is The Blind Assassin, which I loved. This one is (so far) about a professor and her two friends, and there's a fourth woman whom I guess they all hated, who's dead. I'm just not feeling it.
