It's never a good sign when the school calls you in the middle of the day

I got home from the gym yesterday and checked the phone. I saw that Aislin's school had called, but there was no message. Hm. Probably not that important, especially since they didn't call my cell phone. Still, I called over there just in case. The secretary wasn't sure but said she'd have the teacher call me if it was urgent ( Read more... )

I'm trying to imagine the principal's panic in this day and age to be around a pantsless child of either sex. I feel way worse for him than Aislin and especially since Aislin is so cool about it all.
This is such a tough one. Even without raising kids myself I can see where she needs consequences to be motivated to improve, but you wouldn't want to punish her for forgetting and have her develop an elimination fetish and move to Japan- although the blond hair would be quite the hit.
Do you guys have any sort of reward for dry days, or maybe even better, dry days in row?

We haven't done anything really. I keep thinking that if I don't make an issue of it, it will go away. But here it is March and she's still wetting her pants. She did have a couple of months where it stopped for a while. So I don't know. Maybe it's time for a sticker chart. She is very motivated by sugar.

Dealing with half-naked kindergartners isn't in the Principal's instruction manual

I can't for the life of me imagine why. I have a friend who was a primary school nurse, and she saw stuff like this all the time. Not unusual for little ones.

I have no input on Aislinn's situation, specifically, though.

I think this Principal was a middle school science teacher before he was a Principal. He obviously doesn't have much experience with kindergartners and their lack of self-consciousness.

I have a someone on my flist with the same issue. Turned out small child was severely constipated at all points, and it presses on the bladder and they wee themselves. Have you had her checked?

I haven't had her checked, but I know she's not constipated. She's pooping regularly and without effort. And she says her urine doesn't itch or anything. I think it's probably what ebony_sphynx said. She gets so focused on what she's going that she doesn't even realize she has to go until the very last second. Then she dashes to the bathroom and ends up peeing on the floor.

Thanks for sharing this! Like I said, most of the time I make a non-issue of it and I think her teacher does at school too. Aislin does have supreme focus, especially if she's drawing or socializing. And I think she just doesn't realize she needs to go until the very last second.
