My education experience was that the subjects all provided context for each other so that the info could be learned and stored and organized in my little spongy brain.

I used to feel guilty about getting on Suley to pay attention and do his seatwork in class when he was in the academically rigorous pre-K we sent him to -- because I knew in my heart of hearts that it was wrong and counterproductive to ask a four year old to do seatwork. It was when my early childhood guru (now retired) agreed with me and validated my instincts that he needed to be PLAYING and learning from hands-on experiences and roleplay and free play that I bit the bullet and pulled him out. And I do not regret it, nor do I feel that he is "less smart" than if he'd stayed there. He'd probably test lower on a standardized test than he would if he'd been there this year, but I believe that he has more *knowledge* than he would have had he stayed.
