She is eligible for free services via the public school system. Not audiology, hearing aids, etc. Just speech therapy. If we chose to go that route, they would assess her and determine what services she needs. Given that she is not speech delayed right now and is, in fact, developmentally advanced, they would qualify her for -- get this -- NOTHING! They have so many kids desperately needing speech therapy and hearing impaired classrooms and so little funding that even the kids with clearly established needs don't get what they really need. It's a sad state of affairs. I feel lucky to have private insurance that covers speech therapy and audiology because a lot of people don't and they have to take what CPS gives them.
Any links on the kidnapped by Indians kids? That sounds really interesting.
That's sad news about Eilie's future expenses. Is she a candidate for any future surgeries that would improve her hearing? Is she pretty good about keeping her hearing aids in?
She is not a candidate for cochlear implant -- her hearing impairment is sensori-neural not anatomical. Meaning that the problem is the signal between ears & brain, not damage within the structures of the ear. Maybe someday she will be, but not right now.

Pre-school special ed doesn't cover speech therapy, at least?
Wifely frustrations...I hear you!

I read this book: http://www.amazon.com/The-Captured-Abduction-Indians-Frontier/dp/0312317891
which led me to reading about Cynthia Ann Parker and Elizabeth Graham
