One of my greatest tutoring moments ever:

A student asked me how he could avoid repetition. Specifically, the word, confused, popped up in his essay too many times. He was unfamiliar with the thesaurus, so I broke out the good ol' Meriam-Webster, and directed him to find a synonym for confused that he liked ( Read more... )

Awesome! I'm using that from now on to the actions of ESL students who love the thesaurus a bit too much:

"She's a good student, but she mumbles so much her essays are unreadable!"

"He mumbled his bathroom description, and called it a sanctum with a lavabo and closestool."
