Happy Birthday....

What will the apocalypse be like? I wonder this a lot lately... Not longingly, just... What will happen? What will be the cause of the inevitable destruction of humankind? Nuclear Winter? Sheer Stupidity? (Those two are possibly linked) Starvation? The earth running out of resources? Another species somehow cutting the whole line and getting to the ( Read more... )

sounds alot like me...but I think I will end up at Pizza Hut.

I have senioritis pretty bad as well...I just don't give two shits or a fuck anymore. I just keep telling myself..."a few more months, you can do it". Sometimes that makes me feel better and most times it doesn't. I understand what you mean about math and science...I am pretty burnt out on them myself...you are almost done tot...just one more year, you can do it...did that make you feel better??

Barring eschatological scenarios, my guess is a nuclear exchange. Probably in the next European war. They like to think they're a bunch of peaceniks, but you just wait.

But human extinction? To be perfectly honest, I think we might well be extinction-proof at this point. Having advanced to the point where we can deflect asteroids I really don't know if there's any disaster - nuclear war included - that could kill all six billion of us. Robots taking over? They're no more invulnerable than regular war equipment and require lots of energy. Self-replicating nanobots? If they were possible they would have evolved already. Super intelligent AI causing the singularity? Still can't break the laws of physics, and is just a "robots taking over" scenario with a modern flavor. Environmental catastrophe? If science can break the climate by accident, it can fix it on purpose. Peak oil crisis? Not as long as the earth's crust has uranium.

Basically we're probably in pretty good shape.
