Well, figured it was finally time to update. The trip to texas went fairly smooth, no major traffic or anything. We stopped in Missouri to visit some friends of my grandparents on the way down. Was nice, since I haven't seen them for 14 years, since back when my grandfather died. Some times you forget how much people can age in that amount of time, guess I get thrown off by it from being around people who still look like they did in highschool for the most part.
I still don't have internet access on my computer, but that will be fixed some time next week. I'll be getting wireless broadband through a local company in marshall tx. I can't quite figure out if it's using an amplified version of 802.11 standards, or some form of long range bluetooth. All I know so far is that it uses radio tower and antenna's and doesn't need LOS to get signal. But, it does have fairly decent bandwidth, and it's dependable, 512k up and down load speed garunteed as minimum, and can easily burst up to 5 or 6 meg/sec if the area isn't too busy. And since their newest tower is about 3/4 of a mile away from us, we'll currently be the only people using that tower.. I was happy to find this company since there is no DSL on the road where I live, and no cable, even though there is a charter communications office just in town. Should be able to get that set up either on Monday or thursday though, which will be nice, won't need to use this slow ass dialup again. A side note, since cable seems to be lacking down here, almost everyone has dishnetwork or direct tv, so the price on it isn't too bad and it's offered through the phone company, so you get odd things like on screen caller ID.
The area in TX where I'm not living isn't too bad. It's a lot like northern MI, as far as how forested and green it is. The only real major difference is they have red clay down here instead of the gray stuff that we have up there. Well and obviously there are different types of wildlife to watch out for. There are a lot more black widow spiders down here, and you really gotta watch out for brown recluses, they're way more common down here, but also a lot smaller than ones you'd find up north. The palmeno bugs can be annoying (big ass water cockroaches) but they rarely ever get inside your house unless it's exceptionally dry out that season. Need to watch out for new snakes too, mainly Rattlers, Copperheads and Corral snakes, granted the king snakes are good to have around. The only other difference where I am from norther MI is the heat, still around 70 here on average, and I guess it stays that way during the day till closer to the end of December or beginning of January.
Haven't quite grasped the fact that I've been here almost two weeks now. Time goes by too fast when you end up being busy. I've been working at the doctors house for the most part, trying not to ring the neck of the guy he hired to do the green house back porch thing, for being a moron. He's definetely a texas carpenter, got a lot of bad habits that I can't let myself pick up. You see they don't have all the building codes down here like we do in Michigan and other northern states, so they don't put anywhere near as much thought into the quality of work that you do up north. But on the other hand, with him in charge of the project, I don't have to worry about being blamed if it turns out a peice of crap. Otherwise, this Friday and Saturday I did security for some friends of my mothers. They own an aniques and collectibles store on highway 80. This weekend just happened to be the nationwide highway 80 sale, so they needed extra people there to curb theft. Didn't get paid much for it, but I can use em as a reference for other things. Plus it got me away from having to be at Docs all the time.
Now, as far as that whole security thing goes, I just wish I weren't so oblivious or shy when it came to women. At least 3 times friday, some damn good looking women literaly walked over to me, completely ignoring all the stuff they were walking past, just to say high or whatnot, then they'd decide to look at the stuff, making sure they hung around long enough for me to get a good look. And of course what do I do, sit there like a lump and not make a move. Then again, in my defence, they first 2 looked like they may of been under age, since they were wearing their hallsville highschool shirts and sweats, and did look to be possibly under 18. The third one though, reminded me of someone I went to highschool with, Jessica Lee, in retrospect I wish I'd of at least tried to start a conversation with her, must... stop ...being so.... bashful and shy.....
