Chasing the plot bunny.

This is only tangentially related to what I'm currently writing, but wants to be preserved somewhere.

A black smoke, thick and oily with random flashes of acid green, flowed through the vent. It settled heavily over the floor of the small chamber, forcing the white fog already there towards the ceiling. Gradually, an equilibrium was reached and the red light above the vent winked out, accompanied by a clicking whir from within the vent itself.

The two gasses swirled against each other briefly, creating patterns of light and dark, but never mixing. Gradually, they shifted and flowed apart, compressing as they moved to opposite sides of the room. The white mist coalesced first, forming a tall, slender woman with great, feathered wings. Her tongue, as white as the rest of her, flicked nervously against her lips as she watched the black smog gradually form the shape of a man.

He took much longer to form than she had, acid green flickering like lightning across his skin and illuminating the shape of muscles in the blackness as it climbed up his torso. He stood perfectly still for a few moments after the flashes faded, then opened vibrant green eyes and smiled.

The man opened a cabinet, barely concealed in the shape of the walls, and pulled out a pile of neatly folded clothing. "Good to see you, Kira." He said conversationally as he dressed. "I wasn't sure you'd be able to get through without me here, but you made me promise not to tell anyone you were coming."

Kira nodded faintly but didn't return the smile. "You know we can't meet openly, Thalos. Not even here."

A white light flickered into life and the door beneath it sagged open with a faint hiss of air. Thalos smoothed his clawed fingers over the front of his jacket and reached back into the cabinet. "There's something in here for you, too. I had it made, just in case."

Kira shrugged and shook her head haughtily. "You said you had something to show me. I never agreed to play your games."

Thalos laughed and offered her a hand. "Just try not scare the natives."

She ignored the hand and brushed past him, eager to get out of the airlock and stretch her wings.
