Is there a divinity complex that comes from leadership? Does the leader take on a sort of "godliness" where he becomes infallible? Can a true leader really exist, if he does not become godly? Can a simple human learn leadership and become "better" than another person? Is it possible for a simple human to lead without sparking the jealousy and ( Read more... )

If an officer could die to save the life of a subordinate, or vice versa... which should happen ( ... )

in addition, no life can ever be worth more, becuase everyone has a parents, or siblings, or a lover (or many...) and to each of these people, that one life is infinitely important. And what really sets officers apart from subordinates? school? mettle?
can you honestly suppose that a chief wouldn't do the same as an officer in a dangerous situation? wouldn't a non-rate do everything in his power to save a drowning person as an officer would? Wouldn't a non-rate do everything in his power to save a sinking ship as an officer would? an officer in title alone is better than a subordinate, but a good officer has good subordinates(thanks maybe to his leadership?) and should trust them to catch him when he falls. (notice I used WHEN and not IF)

There's only been one person to join the Coast Guard from the town of Jackson, Missouri, and he graduated from Jackson High School like I did. When he was stationed out in Oregon, his commanding officer went rowboating with his girlfriend in bad weather. He had to call his station to pick them up. The only other person from Jackson to join the Coast Guard died in the rescue of his CO. His father works with my mother the next town over. It's been a reminder to me that leaders make mistakes, and they can cost the lives of their followers ( ... )
