For my teacher friends...

So... I was wondering how tempting it might be to staple Mc Donalds applications to failed math tests?

That would have motivated me.

EDIT: I'm not saying this is a *good* idea, I just wonder how TEMPTING it is.
Also, I was thinking College level.

I would do it to a college or high school student who failed because they didn't put forth effort. It would be a little uncalled for if the student really was trying but just could not grasp the subject ( math, spelling, ect.)

One thing that people forget, especially about math and science, is that even in college people are often *required* to take them. Whether they can do them or not -- the equivalent of required gym class. Thank God my alma mater allowed people to take two languages as a substitute for one language and one math course, or I might have ended up with a McDonald's application myself. My brain works well with words but not with numbers; I got through high school math by means of a lot of tutoring.

It was politically correct during my youth that Everyone Can Do Athletics. It's politically correct now that Everyone Can Do Math. Both statements are equally correct.

I am wholy familiar with required classes, gym, math ect., and I know not everyone excels at everything. But both student and teacher must remember that not being good at it naturally is not an excuse not to work hard at it and try.

There is a big difference between doing poorly because you didn't work at something and doing poorly despite putting in every effort. I would give McDonald's applications to those who didn't even try. It's not about the grades, it's about the work you put into them.

I find it mean, but not terribly funny.
But I had some horrific teachers who did far worse things to my young undisciplined brain.

Hmmm...

They possibly should have stapled one to my liberal arts bachelor's degree.

Wouldn't it be more poignant to mail them to our least esteemed legislators, police and judges?

Even today, when people ask me what degrees I've got, I'll tell them, "An M.A. in Medieval Studies... do you want fries with that?"

The sad part is, if I'd stuck with sciences (which I was really, really good at in high school and junior college), I'd probably be rolling in job opportunities right now.
