Everytime I finish a really really really really good book I'm afraid I'll never have that kind of experience again. But then I find another good book. Right ( Read more... )

I'll kinda suggest A Game of Thrones, it's not fluffy, it's political, I think you might like it.

I'd suggest that you do me a favor and read a draft of my novel to give me feedback ;)
It's only 150 pages, you should be able to burn through that pretty quickly. And I'm pretty sure I've patched up all the obvious plot holes!

I wrote a rough draft. She needs some polishing, so I've been doing some editing, but starting the new job has slowed it down. I'm hoping to research publishers and have a presentable draft by the end of the year. The book will remain on market until sold.

It's kind of a coming-of-age emotional gauntlet of crap kind of thing. I'm fond of several jerk-like characters that seem to resemble me.

Hah! Interesting. I didn't even know you were into writing novels.

I'd love to read it. Can you send it to me?

I think you'd LOVE you some Kurt Vonnegut, Corety.

Cat's Cradle is excellent and there's some darkish humor in it that I think you'd appreciate. Give it a read!

Or even better, a book I really think you'd enjoy is Blink by Malcom Gladwell. It's nonfiction and it's about how we make decisions quickly, the judgements we make, how experiences contribute to decision-making, etc things of that nature. It's about thought processing and it's highly interesting, I love Gladwell's work :)

kitchen by banana yoshimoto and then maybe if you like that asleep by same author. despite the boring titles, theyre really good, they pretty much fit your description perfectly, i think one of the stories in asleep has a supernatural element, and so does moonlight shadow, which is at the end of kitchen, but both or the kind that are believable and not overly fantastic or dramatic despite that. i'm pretty sure they have both and more by her at the lib.
