♛ CHARACTER INFORMATION
Name: Minako Arisato
Series: Persona 3 Portable (P3P)
Ability: Persona/Wild Card: The power of Persona is basically the ability to summon a specific spirit in order to fight. Minako has a rare extra ability: that of the Wild Card, which allows her to switch between Personas, when people usually can only have one. Though this power is considered that of "infinite potential", it's only the potential that's unlimited, not the power itself. Minako can hold five different spirits within her at once - if she wants to gain a new spirit (usually through battle, though there are a few methods), she'll have to release one of the ones she carries. Personas give her access to an assortment of skills, depending on who it is: control over one of the elements, healing, or physical attacks (as in, the Persona attacks, not her). All Personas carry their own strength and weaknesses - while controlling a Persona that gives her power over fire, Minako might be made incredibly weak to ice attacks, and so on.
Position: Student, fourth year

History:
Minako was born in Cyril, and her life (or what she remembers of it, being that young) was pretty normal until she was seven, when her parents died in an accident on the Lyeil Bridge. She was then shuttled off to Mars, where she lived with friends of the family. It was difficult at first, of course, but Mars holds many wonders for a curious child to see and explore. Minako took full advantage of this, growing up having conversations with the talking animals, scrambling up into treehouses, wandering the streets and taking in all the different wares and powers on display.
And then one night, she dreamed. Dreamed of an old man and a young man (or was it a woman?), and of a small boy. They offered her a contract - "I chooseth this fate by my own free will, and I will take responsibility for the consequences of my actions." Minako signed it with the ease of all dream logic. Free will? She'd sign up for that any day. And responsibility was a thousand times better than the other option. She wouldn't go blaming others for her mistakes.
She'd almost forgotten about it until she went back to Cyril; when the clock struck midnight, the world stopped. Or seemed to - people were frozen, turned into coffins, the light was an odd, sickly green... but she could still move, still breathe and talk and everything.
As could the monsters. What other choice did she have when they bore down on her? She called for help, and Orpheus answered, blasting the monsters with fire until no more came. Something else answered, too, but remained hidden and watching until Minako was safe once again. She hung onto consciousness long enough to see the people come back to life as if nothing had ever happened, and then she passed out.
When she woke up at the hospital, there were two things waiting for her: a young woman Minako hadn't met before, and a letter from Estrasia. One asked her to fight, the other to learn. She accepted both.
previously on super_powers: Minako made some friends, fought off some monsters, and fused a couple of new Personae. She did get herself into trouble in Training Center B and got bailed out of it by a strange Persona who appeared without her calling it. She hasn't seen it since, nor had her power act up in any way, so all in all her life has been pretty quiet. As quiet as Minako's life can be, that is.
Personality:
Minako is an incredibly upbeat, cheerful person. A social butterfly, she seems to have a knack for making friends wherever she goes, though that's partially due to her kindness and willingness to listen. ...Though it also doesn't hurt that she can be rather nosy and doesn't like to take "no" for an answer. If it's important enough to her, Minako will cheerfully run over any protestations or denials, all the time apparently oblivious to the fact that the other person doesn't want her interference at all.
Thing is, when people look at Minako, they probably see a wonder kid: smart, friendly, and easygoing, if slightly tomboyish and devil-may-care in some instances. But what they don't see is that while Minako is those things, she works for all of them: her good grades are simply because she devotes time to studying; her group of friends are there because she makes sure to hang out with them constantly. Minako's only natural gifts (besides her power) are a stubborn determination and a cool head. It's the latter part that really shines in battle - Minako just seems to have a natural aptitude for coming up with a plan and directing herself and her teammates through it.
Despite that cool head, Minako's still only seventeen years old. Like any other teenager, she gets exhausted, flustered, upset. She can get so overwhelmed that she can't think straight, but like many others she prefers to keep her troubles to herself. As steady and reliable as she is for the people around her, she can get a bit caught up in the role, as if worried that others will somehow think less of her if she shares her own problems. That's not to say that she'll brush off every concern, but she's more likely to confide very privately in someone she trusts. This idea of being the "leader" or "superwoman" sort of person also means Minako occasionally falls into the trap of telling people what they want to hear. The better she knows a person, however, the more likely she is to be honest. Because all in all, she genuinely does want to help. And for the most part she doesn't care what people think of her: she doesn't do all of these things to be popular, but because she really wants to.
Simply put, Minako lives by the contract she made. She does what she wants or what she thinks is right, whether that's fighting or making friends or goofing off. She tries her best, and while she doesn't always have the right answer or the magic touch, she'll never shy away from a problem, especially one of her own creation.
♜ SAMPLES
Third Person Sample:
Minako chewed absently on the end of her pen, thoughts drifting away from the teacher's lecture. That Persona that had torn through Titania to save her... While she couldn't argue with the results, she'd rather have some clue about what had happened. The whole incident had made her realize just how little she knew about the power of the Wild Card. Igor always calls it the "sea of her soul" and that has (somehow, strangely) always made perfect sense to her.
She wasn't the type to question herself; even as newer and stranger Persona had appeared, all apparently reflecting a piece of herself, Minako had never lost a grip of who she was. She'd joked about it once, after a tough battle that had her switching Persona constantly to harass the monster, using herself as bait so her friends could get some breathing room. "Doesn't that make you dizzy?" one of her friends had asked afterward, and she had laughed in response. "I hurt too much to be anyone but me!"
All joking aside, Minako felt like she understood - or she had felt that way, at least. Every Persona had a different personality, a different outlook on life and the situations she found herself in. But she could recognize herself in them, at least a little. The same way a person might talk about having an angel and a devil on their shoulder - only in Minako's case it was a little more literal! Black Frost had encouraged her mischievous side, while Nandi had given her the same calm and optimistic advice that she often gave to her own friends. But this other Persona - if it could even be called that - hadn't felt the same way. It had felt...separate, apart. Something within her had responded, but there was a subtle difference that she couldn't put her finger on, and it frustrated her.
On the other hand, she wasn't on her own in this: Titania? she called silently. Do you know anything about it? The fairy queen would be a good bet - after all, she was the one that had been replaced by the phantom.
No, was the response, the Persona sounding even more annoyed than Minako with the whole situation. Though I would dearly like to.
Anyone? Thoth? The monkey didn't respond, but another one did.
In time. You'll understand in time.
Minako hesitated. Dionysus wasn't always the most logical or rational of people, er, Persona, but he could surprise her on occasion. She could sense his amusement at her doubt.
It's...complicated.
Oh, a lot of help YOU are, she thought back, but with a start she found herself blinking up into the grinning faces of her friends.
"There you are! Man, you had zoned out completely. Did you hear anything the teacher said?"
"Give her a break," another of her friends chimed in. "She was probably daydreaming about a boy. Right Minako? Did a guy make a move on you?" Her teasing smile grew. "Or are you planning on making a move on him?"
"It's...complicated," Minako responded, ignoring Dionysus's chuckle. Hey, she wasn't above stealing a line if it worked!
The first friend shook her head. "Complicated, right. 'fess up, you were just thinking about the ramen you're gonna have at lunch."
Minako stood, grabbing her bag and slinging it over her shoulder. "You know, ramen does sound really good right now."
She laughed along with the other two, listening to their conversation and occasionally throwing in a comment or two of her own. The subject of her daydreaming was dropped completely, just like she wanted.
