The Power To Kill A Yak From 200 Yards Away... With Mind Bullets!

Looks like it's that time again- time for me to start up a new Star Wars RPG campaign. The entire thing will be done online, and I'm looking into various combined voice/text chat options, just to make things run more smoothly than they have in the past. So, this post is to see who might be interested in such a thing ( Read more... )

I would like to participate, if at all possible. Number 2 sounded especially fun, to me. But do you require some sort of web cam or similar hardware? Because I have no idea when I'll be able to procure such a thing.

No, no webcam or anything. Just a microphone and speakers/headphones if I can figure out some kind of good voice chat system. So, feel free to look at the intro rules and character creation pages on my site, now linked in the post.

Okay, I have speakers, but I'm lacking in a microphone. Are those expensive?

Hm, you could probably get one for $5 if you didn't want anything fancy... I'd feel ripped off if I had to pay $10 for one, unless it was really high-quality or something. (Professional quality microphones are hundreds of dollars, of course, but that's not what I mean.) I think this is the stereo-headset-with-microphone that I bought at Target or Sears for about $15 (maybe $20 if I paid full price) to play online multiplayer games - you don't really have a free hand for a mic with most first-person shooters. :) Otherwise I would have used one of the 4 microphones I've had laying around since forever - I think I collected them from purchases of sound cards and other computer equipment. In fact, if we haven't started by the time I see you at Otakon, I'd be happy to just give you one of them, since they've been sitting around gathering dust for years.

Sure, we'd be glad to have you join! Any thoughts on the possible campaign stories?

I've made the basic rules and character creation process a little more new-user-friendly than they used to be, they're on my SWRPG site- since you've played various RPGs before, nothing should really surprise you, but we can give you a hand turning concept into numbers if you want.

Also, if your word processor doesn't like the formatting and stuff I used in the files on my site, you might try AbiWord, which is freeware and available for Mac, I've used the Windows version which seems to be able to handle them just fine.

.rtf is fine in TextEdit, no worries. As for the plots, I can find a great place in all of them. My gut tells me that 2 (You pinged 2 great references there) and 3 (small clan in big war with possibly outsized influence thereupon) would best fit my current mood, but in weeks, that can change.

Ah, ok, I've never used TextEdit. I just mentioned it because not all word processor software recognizes formatted tabs, columns, and/or tables when encountering them in a .rtf document.
