Character Name: Tachibana Chitose
Canon: Fatal Frame 2
Point taken from canon: a bit before her death
Age: looks and is about ten
Gender: female
Preferred Village: Konoha
Appearance: Chitose is a small girl, her black hair cropped short around chin level, with brown eyes and a slight frame, even for one so little. She wears a red silk kimono with gold butterflies embroidered in the fabric, and has a red ribbon with two gold bells on her right wrist. She doesn't have any shoes on or sandals on. She also keeps with her a key with a bell on it--the bell key entrusted to her by Itsuki. At the moment she looks even thinner than she should, as she has been trapped in a closet for some time without food. She's not to the point of total emaciation, but she certainly doesn't look healthy.
Background: Chitose was born to the Tachibana family of Minakami Village, a small village located in the woods that was known for its strange rituals involving the sacrifice of twins. This wasn't known to Chitose, however, whose two older brothers, Itsuki and Mutsuki, were twins themselves. She adored them from a very young age, and, despite her poor eyesight, tried to follow them everywhere. When they weren't around she became shy, hiding from company in the closets of her family's home. Still, her life was more or less idyllic for some time.
When the time came for another ritual, however, her brothers volunteered in order to save Yae and Sae from the pain of it. Chitose wasn't aware of this, however; didn't know of the rituals at all. As such, one day she had two brothers, and the next, only Itsuki arrived home, his hair having turned white from stress. He didn't talk much after that, but always made time for her, and she still draped her affections on him. It was around this time Itsuki gave her the bell she wears on her wrist, saying no matter where she was, he would hear the bell and come for her.
Her brothers' ritual was a failure, and Yae and Sae still had to go through with it. Itsuki helped them escape, and was imprisoned for it, hanging himself. Chitose didn't understand, though, blaming Yae and Sae for her brother's imprisonment and hating them for it. When only Sae was recovered, she still did not know what was going on, and could only watch in confustion as this ritual failed as well, leading to the Darkness being released into the village. Terrified, she hid in the closet, and then could not get out. The ghosts did not find her, nor the vengeful spirit of Sae, but as there was nowhere for her to go, and no way for her to get food or water, she simply waited, ringing her bell, hoping her brother would come to save her, the last one alive in the village.
Personality: Chitose is a shy girl, having grown up in a sheltered village, the younger sister of twin brothers that she adored, never understanding why they were feared. She tends to be naive, but her fearfulness of strangers often keeps her from getting into too much trouble, and she doesn't stray far from home. This is in part due to her shyness, but also because she cannot see well: not blind, but close enough that her brother gave her the bells she wears on her wrist to keep her safe.
As a result, Chitose interacts more through sound and feel than simply watching a scene, and is known to describe things in this way, the texture or unusual sounds holding stronger in her memory than anything she sees, for the most part.
As a child, Chitose doesn't always understand the full gravity of a situation; she had no idea what was going on in the village, only knowing that one day only one of her brothers returned home, and his hair was white. As a result, when Yae and Sae ran away and her brother was imprisoned, she blamed the twins who ran for her brother's plight, not understanding that they ran from their deaths. She holds grudges like only a child can, and isn't quick to trust others, unless her brother says they're trustworthy. Even then, however, she may hide from them if her brother isn't there.
Abilities/Strengths: As Chitose isn't able to see well, being in even complete darkness isn't much of a hinderance to her. She's also small and quick, with a penchant for hiding in closets. She's quite good at staying hidden if she wants to. Even supernatural creatures and ghosts have trouble finding her when she hides. To make up for her lack in vision, her brain has strengthened her other senses; her hearing, in particular, is quite good.
Chitose has grown up in a small, rustic village. While she may have been spoiled a bit, as the youngest child with two loving brothers, she knows how to survive in such a village, and has basic knowledge of most household chores and things more modern-day children might take for granted, or not normally have to deal with at all.
Chitose's loyalty, while hard-earned, isn't something that fades once its won. She will stick by those she trusts to any bitter end, always trusting them to keep their promises. The people she views as enemies to those she loves are her enemies as well. The fact that she does not give this trust, or any trust at all, out easily makes her hard to manipulate without first working at the attempt. She will not blindly trust the first stranger who throws her a kind word and a smile.
Weaknesses: Chitose is a small, frail girl, and as such would not last long in a fight. She has very bad eyesight, and the very bell that her brother gave her to keep her safe from wandering into danger makes her easily tracked, both by people that want to help and things which want to hurt her. She doesn't understand things as well as an adult or even an older child might, and is prone to jumping to conclusions based on only some of the facts. Her shyness keeps her away from people who might help her if she doesn't know them, as well.
Chitose is afraid of strangers, often hiding in closets to get away from them. Even people she knows may receive this treatment if she feels she has reason to hide. She also fears the loss of her brother Itsuki, as she's already lost Mutsuki, although she does not know why. Aside from these main fears, she has the fears of any child, from the loss of her family to not being very fond of spiders.
