So the day before I fly to Europe for 2 weeks, I call Scotiabank (this morning) to inform them I will be using my debit card abroad, so please don't freeze my account like you did the last time and left me stranded with no access to money and totally freaking out. This woman answers, and proceeds to deactivate my credit card in favour of a new one which I have not received yet. Since she is unable to reactivate it, she offers to ship a new one express to the address in Germany where I'll be staying. I agree, and give her the address.
An hour later she calls me back, and arranges that the card will be sent to me here in Toronto, on Saturday morning before I leave to catch my flight. Fine. 4 minutes later she calls me back and asks whether I'll be in tonight. When I confirm I will be, she sounds relieved and confidently states the card will be delivered between 6-7pm tonight.
It is now 11:45pm, no card in sight. The extension she gave me reaches nothing but a busy signal. My last hope is that it will indeed be delivered tomorrow morning. I'm just worried about the 2 hotels I booked using that credit card; the online booking site said the card will be charged I think at the time of stay. I just hope the bookings are not cancelled because of an invalid card.
Murphy's Law dictates that the bookings will be cancelled, my card will never materialize, all 3 of my debit cards will not work overseas, and I will be stranded with no access to money and totally freaking out. Stay tuned for the next installment...
