I swear the news coverage for technology is almost as bad as political coverage. There is no balanced news coverage anymore. Either they say the latest iPhone is the greatest technological achievement since landing on the moon, or its a piece of shit ( Read more... )

I personally have nothing against Apple....that having been said, all of the stuff that Apple has come out with since I bought my 3gs lo those many years ago seem to be impractical "toys" that aren't that pertinant to what I really need from my mobil equipment.

I can say with great confidence that upgrading to the SIII skyrocket was a huge improvement- better (bigger) screen, better (more flexible) file moving options, super awesome and free navigation (fully integrated 3-D google maps/street view) and perhapse most importantly, OPEN SOURCE apps....Apple has you captive to it's store (unless you take the risk of jailbreaking, which can F*ck up your phone/void your warranty) but with android you're not even chained to your provider....you can buy apps from ANY android store, whether they are android approved apps or not.

I plan presently to move to the Galaxy Note II when it comes out, I doubt I'll ever return to the iphone.....yes, it's easy to use, and relatively bug-free, but way too confining in both hardware and software format.

I agree that the iPhone isn't for everyone. Personally, I like the App Store because of how well it integrates with my phone and all of my Apple devices, as well as the sense of security and confidence it gives me. I haven't had a need to jailbreak my phone yet.

People either love anything to do with Apple and Apple products, or they hate it. That's how it has always been. Then there are some people who at first seem to have a more balanced viewpoint, but then when you take a closer look at the actual vocabulary they are using to describe their favoured product or the competition, it stops appearing to be so balanced in the details.

Keep in mind that fundamentally, this is all a competition on various levels. It is a competition between makers of various types of cell phone; a competition between consumers wanting to show off that they have the latest and greatest gadgets; and a competition between media outlets wanting to provide the most popular coverage of such things. Balanced viewpoints don't sell, and so they don't win.

The truth is that you could get by equally well with any of the current cutting edge products. But how attractive of an idea is that?
