That POV meme
A few of my flist have done a POV meme where you count the number of times you’ve used each character's POV in your fics. I can’t seem to find an example to steal right now, so I’ll just wing it.
I have eight fics that use a single POV. These break down to:
Daniel -3
Sam - 2
Jack - 2
3rd person omniscient (sort of) - 1
This is unsurprising to me. I enjoy writing Daniel and Jack’s voices, and while I don’t think I do Sam’s justice, I tend to write her because I like the S/D ship and I can’t always tackle it from Daniel’s perspective. They tend to be third-person limited, past tense, though I have used present tense in a couple of places.
I have three fics that switch POVs between scenes, some of them many, many times. These scenes break down to:
Sam - 13
Jack - 11
Daniel - 8
Teal’c - 2
OC - 3
Jacob - 3
Zipacna - 3
Brightman - 1
Several points of interest to me here:
1) I don’t write Teal’c anywhere near as much as I should. I love, love, love him, but I never feel like I’m doing him justice when I try to voice him.
2) I’m flabbergasted that I write Sam more often than Jack. I don’t really enjoy mutilating Sam’s voice, whereas Jack lets my not-so-inner sarcastobitch out to play.
3) Daniel’s score is relatively low only because I intentionally avoided his POV for almost an entire multi-chapter fic.
4) I LOVE writing Jacob (with the Selmak peanut gallery). I need to find a bunny that lets me do it again.
5) I also LOVE writing the bad guy. Zipacna was FUN, and not just ‘cause it let me cheat on the whole avoiding Daniel’s POV thing. amaranthtraces finds my tendency here just a smidge scary. I think of it as cathartic. If I channel all my evil emotion into a fictional badass, I’m probably not going to start a murderous rampage in the streets. Well, not today, anyway. It’s snowing. Brr.
6) Why the heck have I never written Janet’s perspective? Must rectify that at some point.
I haven’t yet included the two fics I coauthored with amaranthtraces. One of them does two rotations through Sam, Jack, Daniel and Teal’c in first person with a third person Hammond in between. That was fun, if somewhat confusing. The other has 5 Daniel POV scenes and 3 Vala ones, though I’m pretty sure Amaranth wrote all the Vala...
