I went back and forth on that so many times that I lost count. Eventually, I decided to take a pragmatic attitude to what to believe. I now use the following criteria for selecting my beliefs:
1) Must correlate acceptably with observable facts (given known limitations for any formal system to describe the world).
2) Should help me to choose actions which provide genuine progress towards my objectives.

So I believe in spirits and whatnot when it's helpful for me to do so, and I don't believe in them at other times. So the question I would ask is "Would believing in a gift help me to fix the situation somehow?"

im afraid i dont have any advise for you. i just wanted to say that im sorry youve had such a rough semester. if you can, try to keep your coursework as a top priority. the last thing you want is to have to pay to take those courses a second time!
