Michael, presumably, has Helen living with him now, partly to keep her safe and guard over her, and partly from another feeling he doesn't understand, one that goes with his human body and stirs in his human heart.

To-day he's working at his leather in his usual quiet way, and thinking of her, and of her child.

Helen comes up and sits down next to him, not speaking for the moment, just watching.

He looks over at her and continues for a little while, and then puts his work down. "Are you well, gospodah?"

"Yes, thank you. And you? How are you feeling?"

[three_smiles]

"I do not know," as a somewhat gentle reminder. "I think perhaps I feel something, but I do not know what it is."
