aw man. yeah, that's like the entire customer base at my job (obviously). we have farmer's markets through the summer, but rhode island is pretty rural so there are a lot of farmers and at least whole foods pushes local product really strongly. but man. i wish it was more accessible. i never know what to say when customers start ranting about the prices being too high...

Tell them they're supporting their local farmers? I thought that the bourgie kinda peeps that shopped at Whole Foods liked that kind of thing? Tell them about the "100 Mile Diet" & then maybe they'll shut up... heh. Or is the 100 Mile Diet out? I have no idea...

I want to support local producers, but because I can't deal with the markets, it's kinda hard. I always make an effort to pay attention to where the produce I'm buying is from. Loblaws actually posts that info on their pricing signage. Well, nation anyway.

there's always assholes who complain (and also valid complaints but i really am sick of hearing them). like, if our prices were lower we'd go out of business, or they'd have to cut costs elsewhere by paying us minimum wage without benefits like other grocery stores... etc... it's irritating because people just blame WF instead of the entire system. a lot of people are willing to pay the higher prices and do like supporting what WF stands for, but there are tons of people who shop there and whine about it. i have no idea why. there's a few regular, low-price markets in the same area. i think they just like to have a chance to complain.
