For the first time ever, I was speaking to a competent Comcast customer service rep.  Woah.  So summer subletting is set, and with an applicant I trust --despite never having met her in person.  Strange, no?  She's an older grad student (and colleague) and they're paying the full summer's rent up front.  So no worries.  They're also paying the full ( Read more... )

maybe art is just any way of being creative or expressing your thoughts or feelings of the world through something abstract? ya. i guess maybe it's all about being abstract, and extending beyond language which requires little interpretation and personalization. music is art because it is more abstract than language and has different interpretations to different listeners, also the vocals in music are often poetic and obscure. paintings are art because there is no language at all and interpretation is even more abstract. Film requires less interpretation to the viewer because it often has "realistic" visuals and language, but "artsy" movies are often more poetic and fantasy-based. i think the same goes with literature. i think the point is that both literature and film are creative and fictional. science isn't normally considered art because it is reality-based and requires little interpretation, or rather the interpretation is the same for everyone. it's purpose is the pursuit of knowledge, while the purpose of art is creativity, ( ... )
