I've just been binge watching The Last Detective. I didn't know it existed until a couple of weeks ago - even though it was made/screened from '03 to '07. As far as I can tell, it was never shown on local TV until it turned up recently on UKTV. Thing is, it is really rather good. There's a demotion involved I think. It's a long time since I last saw it.

Yes, but it doesn't seem to be mentioned in the series. It was referenced in the site I used to see what the series was about before I decided to watch. So I presume the demotion and its reasons are covered in the books. There is also an older movie which I have yet to watch.

It was shown in Oz on the ABC. I really liked it, probably for the same reasons you did.

Definitely an ABC type show. It really surprises me it wasn't shown here - in place of some of the countless repeats of Midsomer Murders.
