The Slander of Women Act of 1891 made it illegal actionable to write or say anything which would "impute unchastity or adultery to any woman or girl" in the UK (excepting Scotland).

This law is still in effect.

So girlfriends couldn't talk about one of their own and say she shagged so and so? How on earth would gossip occur then???? That law was obviously written by a male.

Ha! Basically, it means that the person doesn't have to claim damages to press charges (defamation is usually only actionable if they, for instance, lose their income because of people saying crap) but can take you to court if they decide they don't like you saying they shagged so-and-so!
