Threns have gone no 'poo. Yes, I am officially an unwashed hippie. Or something like it. I tried it once a few years ago and it didn't stick. This time I'm hoping it will. For the uninitiated, this simply means washing one's hair either without shampoo at all, or at least with shampoo without sulfates and silicones. Some only wash with (silicone- ( Read more... )

I really should investigate that; my issue is more with flaky scalp.

Yeah, I'm flaking like crazy at the front on top. My skin is so dry that it's peeling on my forehead, and the patch works its way into my scalp. This seems to be helping, though. It's still flaky, but not as much as it was before. I'm going to condition next time- either with store conditioner or with egg yolk, I haven't decided. I also need to drink more water. Lavender oil is supposed to help as well, but it's expensive as fuck and I got tea tree oil instead (which will dry it out more, so avoiding that instead) because we can use that in cleaning as well.

It's an interesting experiment. It's crazy hard to give up all the nice-smelling hair stuff, though. My hair smells like a salad for about ten minutes and then doesn't smell like anything. :/

Yeah, I have that issue too. My skin is dry dry dry. The hard water doesn't help - and I have switched to non-sulfate shampoos, too, which has helped, but not enough. :|

What's a good source on the method?

It's hard to get a line on stuff because so much depends on how your body/hair reacts and what the water's like where you live, plus there are different variations (water only, conditioner only, stuff meant for people with tons of curls, etc). But there's a good source here, and the tags at no_poo are very helpful. The comm is a good resource especially for people with not-curly hair (Curly Girl is one no poo method that's very popular, so there's a lot of stuff tailored to curly hair), though it's a bit heavy on the vegans and the occasional butthurt about using eggs or honey.

ETA: I checked on the status of my flakes before I went out earlier, and they are GONE. Holy what the fuck. I guess the white vinegar rinse really works. O.O
