I know, that's why it caught my eye.

*don't give it away* ;)

... great- now I have that RHCP song stuck in my mind...

What I've got you've got to give it to your mamma
What I've got you've got to give it to your pappa
What I've got you've got to give it to your daughter
You do a little dance and then you drink a little water...

"(don't)-Give-it-AWAY, now..."

:p

Sultanahmet Camil. Istanbul. Turkey.

The Blue Mosque.

Strange angle, I assume it was taken from the same tower casting the shadow across.

"Istanbul was Constantinople
Now it's Istanbul, not Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Constantinople
Now it's Turkish delight on a moonlit night" :p

Ya got the country and region! However the building is not the "Blue Mosque". This particular building is called The Hagia Sophia (Ayasofya)-- the sibling building to the "Blue Mosque"; it appears is much closer to the sea, and has many more of those pillars than does the Hagia Sophia.

While the Hagia Sophia used to be a church, then converted to a mosque (and probably back and forth in history) I believe now the Hagia Sophia is primarily a museum, from my understanding...

ya world-traveler! :)
I would love to go there one day and then head over to some archaeological sites in Greece, to see what they know. ;)

I've got a picture of me in front of it. Possibly the only day of that trip that I didn't wear shorts, since it's more respectful to wear something that covers your knees if you're visiting mosques... Hagia Sophia was under major renovation at the time, lots & lots of scaffolding everywhere inside and just looked pretty dingy, unfortunately.

that sux.
I heard from someone that it's just normally quite dark inside (aside from the scaffolding etc.)

covers your knees if you're visiting mosques

I don't think the Hagia Sophia is a "mosque" now, per se. The photo caption mentions that it is no longer neither a church nor mosque...
"at one time the largest church, now a museum..."

Hrrrmmmmm. I'd much prefer to go museum-hopping if I'm ever over there! ;)
