What I'm thankful for:

I think there's a lot of misinformation about evolutionary science, and when I hear some of the things that people have been told, I agree with them--that's laughable. But I've read an awful lot about what it actually is, and the logic and evidence are overwhelming. The tiniest little thing could prove it wrong, but hasn't. Instead, we've found ( Read more... )

And some computer scientists observed evolution's effects and wondered, "Hey, can we get in on some of that action?" And the answer was, "Yes, of course." So now we have the field of evolutionary computation where we've harnessed evolution to do useful work, such as evolving building designs, jet engine parts, factory work flows, and so on.

And, unburdened by physical constraints, computer scientists are free to play around with various configurations that have no real world analogs. Sure, we can have asexual and binary reproduction, but why not k-ary reproduction? Triple strand genomes? Binary or real-valued genes? Or even computer programs?

H. Sapiens, the only race for me.

Improving on binary reproduction. I'm hoping to live long enough to see genuine AI.
