So the (colostomy?) bag is expected to be removed at some point?

Is the expected outcome of all this that you'll be able to eliminate normally, including holding it when you have to?

I've heard that opiate pain meds have the side effect of slowing down the digestive tract, so maybe once you heal up and get all the drugs out of your system everything will straighten up. Get better soon!

After a REALLY shitty near-three weeks, I am about ready to be discharged from Mayo. I think they'll kick me lose Wednesday or Thursday. Had some nasty complications, but I'm on the mend.

They remove the bag in early September, which is when the second procedure is scheduled. Essentially, what they did on June 2nd, was remove my colon and then reconstruct a section of my lower small intestine into a replacement. The ileostomy bag is just temporary, to buy time for that replacement colon to heal and grow.

In September, they remove the bag and complete the internal connection. A year from now, I should be living a nearly normal life.
