Found an interesting cheap recipie today, Poor Man's Pizza. It's essentially quickie flatbread with some toppings. From none other than James Barber, the Urban Peasant. I always liked that guy when I watched him on TV when I was a kid for some reason... must have been his natty accent and the ever-present grin that says "I really like my job ( Read more... )

Urban Peasant rocks. He's got a few notions I've never gotten the hang of -- such as you don't have to rigidly measure everything ("...how large is a pinch, how Medium is a carrot?") and his recipies are actually narratives filled with banter ("...Mexicans use lard because they also have pigs, but you have a bottle [of oil] because you have a supermarket.").

I've done about six of the recepies in one of his books, and they've all turned out good, or at least filling.

That does sound good and easy, and except for the toppings I already have all the ingredients.

Harris Family Secret to home made pizza: Use ketchup as pizza sauce. I'm enamoured that that idea is already in the recipe.

Your family and mine must be related; we did that too. The other Brideau Family Recipie was "Dump contents of canned condensed mushroom soup into cooked macaroni, and browned ground beef or can of tuna," the Poor Man's Hamburger/Tuna Helper.

I make it once in a while when no one's around. To my current family, hideous glop; to me... nostalgia.
